~ adv, conjunction 1 at, to, or from a particular place or position  (Where do you live? | I asked Lucy where she was going. | Where are you going to put it? | Sit where you like.)  (- see position1) 2 in, towards, or from a particular situation or at a particular point in a speech, argument etc  (Now where was I? Oh yes, I was telling you about taking mother to the airport. | Where will all this fighting and bloodshed end?) 3 used at the beginning of a sentence in which the second part expresses the opposite, or something different from the first part  (Where most people saw nothing but a hardened criminal, Audrey saw a lonely and desperate man.)
